Handbag Cake = too cute to cut

Cherie's mum ordered a Hand Bag cake for her 40th birthday as a suprise. When she collected it she was very excited about how much Cherie was going to like it.

The design itself comes from the Planet Cake cook book. The cake is a chocolate mud cake covered in chocolate ganache and then decorate in sugar paste. The zipper is hand painted with edible gold paint.

Cherie's initals as the decal on the bag really personalised the bag.

When I rang to see if Cherie liked the cake I was told that she thought it was too nice to cut and still hadn't cut the cake two days after her party! I took that as a really big compliment.

Allergy Free Cakes

It has been a huge week for me. I was approached by a mother of a girl who is anaphylatic to nuts, dairy and eggs to make a her a birthday cake. It was a big task but we got there. I was provided with nut free chocolate and worked on some samples of cake and also had Gabby try the icing I use and ended up with a fabulous result.  I couldnt use dairy so I was unable to use ganache under the sugar paste and instead used a nuttlex buttercream. I was really happy with the results.

Gabby is a fan of spongebob squarepants and so for her actual birthday I did this. When her mother came to pick up the cake from me she looked at it a cried!  It was the most amazing reaction to cake I have ever had. It was a beautiful reaction.

After the success of the cake I went on and did the cakes for Gabby's birthday party. We did it in a Club Penguin theme. Another nut free, dairy free, egg free cake was required for the party and 24 cupcakes for her friends to take home(not allergy free).

The take home cakes were boxed indivudually for the kids to take home.

A close up of a selection of the cup cakes.

I loved doing these they were loads of fun.
