That was the year that was - 2012

Well 2012 is almost done and we have had a fantastic year.

So many cakes went out from the Sunny Girl Cakes kitchen I though it would be nice to have a look back at some of our favourites.  (Im trying to pick three from each month .. ohh its not easy)

Back in January 2012 what better to serve up on Australia day than a good old Aussie thong for a young girl called Summer.  And a beach themed cupcake tower for a wedding at Sunshine Beach and  Rose's 21st cake with all its black and white glamour and height.

In February it was Sammy's gorgeous 21st cake topped with a giant cupcake. We created a gorgeous black and white ruffle cake display for a photo shoot and Jess and Ben were married at Lily's at Twin Waters their cake was topped with personalised figures made from sugar.

In March we had Max's 4th Birthday cake - Lightning McQueen, a darling cute christening cake for a little boy and girl Oscar and Sophia and Isabella's princess cake. What a pleasure these cakes where to create. Loved the sweet details.

In April we had Easter! This picture of our Easter cupcakes has been pinned and repinned on Pinterest which is exciting for us.  Rochelle and Cameron were married at Weddings at Tiffany's and Dale's wife surprised him with this Essendon Football Jumper for his 30th Birthday.

In May we created what has turned out to be our most popular wedding cake it has been recreated three times since. It was Shara's wedding cake with cascading dusted pink roses. Then Scarlett and Dan were married at My Place in Coolum and her felt flowers were replicated on the cake from sugar.  Kelly turned 40 a small celebration warranted a personalised cake.. She loved it.

June brought the cold weather but that didn't stop the cakes. Some baby shower cakes to start with for Michelle who was getting ready to pop. Then Jess married Wade on a very wet day on the Sunshine Coast but their cake was stunning. All in white fondant wrapped cake based on a design by Cake That.  June also meant the exciting time of the Sunshine Coast Bridal Showcase. This meant I could come up with four new display cakes! the red ruffle design is one of them.

July .. So many cakes to choose from in July... One of my absolute favourite cakes is Mindy and John's wedding cake , Layers of blue fondant wrapped around three tiers of cake with a fade into white. A very dear friend of mine Maree celebrated her birthday and to thank her for all he hard work she does taking photos and helping me out at expo's I did her a cake for her birthday. July is also the birth month of both my children so of course their cake has to feature here. A little less pretty than the others but still worth, Darth Vadar head.. That bled when we cut it! ohh so awful.

In August just some of the beauties we created were Shaye and Jay's wedding cake who celebrated at Palmwoods.  A very cool Spiderman cake and cookies for Oscar and some awesome Simpsons cupcakes for Dylan.
Also in August I was a finalist in the Young Sunshine Coast Business Woman of the Year Awards, which was nice to be apart of.

September.. was a very busy month. One of the cakes that bought as a lot of excitement here at Sunny Girl Cakes was the giant strawberry for the opening of the Real Food Festival. It was a fun cake to make and was exciting to meet the Mayor of the Sunshine Coast. We also created many wedding cakes during September including this gorgeous pink and white wedding cake for Kristy topped with hand made sugar frangipanis.

October was a busy month for weddings. To choose just three is very tough. I was just loving the fresh flowers of Michelle's cake the lillies were stunning and the Orchids that topped Jacqui's cupcake tower are amazing. Amy's ruffle cake was gorgeous at the Weddings at Tiffany's location in Maleny.

November started with romantic sugar roses for Susanne and Paul's wedding cake. Lara and Tim were married at Montegos Kawana Island and their cup cakes were Red Velvet with cream cheese icing which is to die for. The gorgeous fresh flowers continued with Chloe and Dylan's wedding cake topped with these amazing flowers. I have to mention that also in November we made 720 cupcakes for Youi insurance's 4th birthday.

December brings more weddings but then of course the excitement of Christmas.
Samantha and Trent were married at the Turf Club Caloundra and chose this Love cake design. These sweet pink cupcakes were for a special celebration and of course some Christmas cakes to finish off the year.

There were so many cakes I couldn't feature them all. I would like to thank everyone that ordered a cake from me especially those who trusted me to make their wedding cake. I loved every one of them.

Thank you to everyone that has followed my year of cakes, gave feedback,  and shared my page or told someone about my cakes. Its been an amazing year and I cannot wait for what is to come in 2013.

Cheers Skye

Beautiful Blooms

Christine and Greg where married at RACV Resort at Noosa on another stunning Sunshine Coast Day.
The focus was on flowers. Absolutely amazing flowers were arranged by the very clever Rebecca Gabby of Blooms of Noosa
The cutting cake was a vanilla cake finished with a rustic look buttercream which suited the fresh flowers. The cupcakes were chocolate mud cake finished with sugar paste bow and Vanilla cakes finished with vanilla buttercream swirls. One for the dessert for each guest and one for them each to take home.
The table setting and details was set by Splash Events and the venue looked amazing.

Congratulations Greg and Christine x Skye

Romance in Roses

1:19 PM Skye Howe 2 Comments

Susan and Paul were married at Noosa Springs Golf Course on a gorgeous Sunshine Coast day in November and their choice in cake was, I think,  romantic.

A small wedding of 35 joined them to celebrate witness their special day including their children.

The cake was cherry ripe mud cake top tier and white chocolate mud cake bottom tier.

The roses are hand made with sugar paste.

The theme of the wedding was love and family and the room had been decorated by the very clever First Class Function team in candy pink.

best wishes Susan and Paul x

Vintage style wedding lolly bar

7:28 PM Skye Howe 0 Comments

We are just in love this vintage style back drop for Tina's cake. The lolly bar was done by Tina herself and we provided the cake with cascading sugar roses. The wedding was held at a private property.

The pale olive green ribbon and the leaves just link the cake in with the back drop perfectly.
The dusty pink roses are made from sugar paste.

The cake itself is two tiers of cherry ripe mud cake and the base is white chocolate.
